I was having my daily quiet time in-between classes today because I got out early from one! I just started going through the Gospels, and today I read Matthew 8. It was crazy how much information was in there about all of the miracles that Jesus did. So..I decided to blog about it! I'm gonna give you the "Chelsea Version" of Matthew 8! haha
Right after Jesus preached about the Beatitudes, he walked down the mountain that he was just preaching on and a humungous crowd was following him.
1. A leper came to Him and asked Jesus to heal him. So, Jesus touched him and he was instantly healed. Then, Jesus told the "ex-leper" to not tell anyone what had happened, but instead go to the priest to be pronounced clean!
Then Jesus goes to Capernaum.
2. A centurion came up to Him and said that one of his servants was paralyzed and was suffering really bad. Jesus said that he would go and heal the servant. The centurion said that he didn't feel worthy enough to have Jesus come into his house! So instead, he told Him that he believed that if Jesus would just say the words, that his servant would be healed. The centurion had a lot of authority, so he was used to telling others what to do all of the time and they would immediately do it. So that day was different for him, he didn't expect Jesus to just stop what He was doing and walk all the way to his home and heal his servant. He believed wholly on the words that Jesus spoke. After hearing what the centurion said, Jesus said that the centurion had the most faith that he had ever seen. Jesus told him to go, and at that very moment, the servant was healed.
3. Jesus went to Peter's house and He saw Peter's mother-in-law lying down because she had a fever. Jesus touched her hand and the fever left her. Then it says that she got up and served Him. (I don't know what that means, but that's what it said lol)
4. That same night, a bunch of people were brought to Jesus who were demon possessed and who were sick. He healed all of them. And a prophecy was fulfilled right there. Isaiah 53:4 says, Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
Jesus saw a big crowd around Him and He told everyone to go on the side of Him (haha don't know why but He did) A scribe came to Him and told Him that he wanted to follow Him but that he had to bury his father first. Jesus said "Follow me, and let the dead bury the dead"
Jesus and His disciples get on a boat.
5. There was a big storm and the waves were crashing inside of the boat, and Jesus was sleeping. The disciples ran to Him and were scared and said that if He didn't do something that they were all going to die. Jesus said, "Why are you afraid? You have such little faith!" Jesus got up, and rebuked the sea and winds, and all of the sudden, it was calm. The disciples were amazed and were saying things like "Who is this man that He can even make the sea and wind obey Him?"
They traveled to the other side of the sea to Gadarenes.
6. When they got off the boat, two demon-possessed men met them. They were so crazy that no one could pass by. They cried out, "O, Son of Man, what do you think you are going to do with us? Are you coming to torment us?" There was a herd of pigs feeding off in the distance. Jesus said one word, "Go." And the demons immediately left the two men and went into the pigs and the pigs ran off a steep cliff, and drowned in the water.
The herdsmen immediately ran into the city to tell everyone what happened. After the herdsmen told everyone, the whole city went to Jesus and begged for Him to leave!
Wow. There was just sooo much stuff in just that one chapter! While I was reading all of it and writing my thoughts down, verse by verse, I was thinking, "man I gotta blog about this later".
Well, that's my thoughts for today!
It was kinda long, but much more condensed than the actually text.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Comment and tell me about what you read today!
Love, Chelsea!
